Nathan, originally from up-state New York, and Sara, originally from southeast Minnesota, met at Northland College on the south shore of Lake Superior in 1994. After college they traveled around the country and settled for a while in Marietta, GA. Here they were married and had their first child, Keenan. Tired of the city life they wanted to get back to Lake Superior to raise their family. They looked at a map and chose Grand Marais as their destination. One year after moving they had their second child, Shaelyn. Happy with the area they had chosen they began looking for a space to open their first restaurant. The name was thought of years before on a trip from New York to Minnesota, so when the doors opened at The Crooked Spoon Café it truly was a dream come true!
